Access to Pingtung and basic information
Pingtung County is located in the southern part of Taiwan Province. It has Eluanbi, the southernmost cape on the main island of Taiwan, within its boundaries.
The nearest airport is Kaohsiung International Airport. If you are coming from overseas, you can take a train or a bus from Kaohsiung International Airport. Cabs can be used for a few thousand yen, and google maps are available for easy navigation, but be aware that bus schedules are sometimes incorrect.

There are two ports. Destination is the same Ryukyu Island (different ports). The boarding fee is almost the same.

New operations begin in spring 2024.

As mentioned, it is a new facility, but most accommodations are concentrated in the Pingtung area on the opposite side of this new port. The shortest distance is about 1 km away and crossing a canal. A 20-minute walk is required.
Ryukyu Island is mainly for day-trippers. Although the cancellation rate is low in this area, those who do not have a day to spare should stay overnight in Kaohsiung or this area, leave their large luggage at the inn, and board the ship lightly. I stayed one night in Pingtung. I stayed one night in Pingtung because I had to take a bus at 7:00 a.m. the next morning.
Ryukyu Island is an inhabited remote island that can be reached by a day trip from Kaohsiung. In fact, I headed there from Kaohsiung that morning. By bus.

屏東の宿泊施設
遇見‧秘境民宿(Meet Secret B&B)
I stayed here.
Single room on the second floor. Shower and toilet facilities are shared, and there is a locker in the common area that can hold an M-size suitcase. There is an elevator, but it is connected to the restaurant, so it does not go to the accommodation floor. You have to carry your suitcase by yourself on the stairs.

Most of the staff here were women. Luggage can be checked in before check-in. Around 7:00 a.m., there is a staff member to handle check-out. I left my baggage around 9:00 am.
輕旅宿
Gyeongsil Ryokan is the lowest price (2,000 yen/person) for a location close to the port. Dormitory rooms are shared by men and women. But there is no curtain partition on this bed. This is a change of clothes, where do you do it? Toilet? There are many types of dormitories in Taiwan that do not have a partition, so I choose the type with a partition. I have actually seen some people who stay in dormitories with partitions, but I prefer to stay in a room with partitions.
The first bunk of the bunk beds in this accommodation gives an impression of being low. I have never seen a dormitory room with so much space up to the ceiling.
名所:東港夜市
I bought my supper and breakfast here and brought them back to the hotel. Cash only. It is cheaper than the night markets in Taipei and Keelung! And the food was delicious. If I go to the night market again, I will choose this place.

名所:東港東隆宮
Personally, I found another palace near here more atmospheric.
