I went here before the earthquake damage. Here are some photos from that time.

Hualien County is located in the eastern part of Taiwan Province. The county government seat is Hualien City.

We went from the entrance to the middle of the mountain and back again along the same path. It took an hour and a half for the round trip to the halfway point.

I usually climb hills in Japan with heeled boots, but here the soles of my feet ached even with thick-soled 3cm boots.

We went on a group trip. It was a 10-city, 5-day trip in the off-season, costing in the range of $17,000 per person. Airfare included.

Astar Hotel Hualien is located near the sea.My friend and I rented one room with three other people.It had a mini kitchen. There were snacks as well as free water.

The second time I revisited Hualien, I stayed at a hotel near the train station because I was traveling by train.

I had a previous experience of getting sick to my stomach at a drink bar in Taipei, so I opted for the buffet style at the hotel.
