Traveling alone in Korea for 10 days even with zero Korean language skills: information on buses, currency exchange, LCC and inexpensive hotels

My tour of hydrangeas in Japan is almost complete, so I went to Korea as well.

South Korea is a country where English is rarely spoken. Even so, I have been to inhabited islands by bus and boat.

The total cost for this 10-day trip was 150,000 yen.

I went to Korea alone from the end of May to the beginning of June. However, due to delays and cancelled flights, I was unable to visit some of the inhabited islands that I had planned, so I had to carry that over to the next time.

I am a Singaporean NEET, so one of the things I regret is that I should have set aside one more week for my original stay.

The purpose of my visit to Korea was to cover Maharajima (a manga about a manned island). I prefer remote island settlements and villages to cities.

Cartoonist executes a challenging island trip in Korea for the first time.

The first day was the most difficult. We took a bus ride to the island. I couldn’t find any information about buses on the Internet, so I went there anyway. Unlike Japan, there is no place to leave suitcases at the airport.

We had no choice but to take the bus to the first island, dragging our suitcases with us.
