Cats are more famous on AINOSHIMA, which is also in Fukuoka Prefecture and has a route from the same port, but they actually stalk me more on Fukuoka Prefecture’s UMASHIMA. I was the only one there because everyone else went to AINOSHIMA.
There is another inhabited island called UMASHIMA in Ehime Prefecture with the same kanji and the same pronunciation. Please make sure not to make a mistake.

The boat trip difficulty level is “easiest”. Ferries may be cancelled during typhoons and winter months.

ABOUT killing a cat
Cats on UMASHIMA quietly stay by our side. However, you should be careful not to hold them in your arms, as they can injure you in this way.
A man who lives on this island was once suspected of killing a cat. The police investigated, but in the end it resulted in a lack of evidence.
“The number of cats on the remote island of Umashima in Kokurakita-ku, Kitakyushu, has plummeted to about 30 from about 90 five years ago. “On October 4, 2019, a group in Fukuoka City filed criminal charges against a man in his 80s with the Kokurakita Police Station of the Fukuoka Prefectural Police for violating the Animal Protection and Control Law and the Birds and Beasts Protection Law. The man is alleged to have used poisoned bait to kill cats and crows over a period of many years. On June 5, 2020, the Fukuoka Prefectural Police sent the man to prosecution on suspicion of violating the Animal Protection and Control Law and the Avian Protection Law.
On June 25, 2020, the Kokura branch of the Fukuoka District Public Prosecutors Office dropped the charges against the man, stating that “sufficient evidence was not obtained to prosecute.”

Cases of animal abuse, etc. reported in newspapers
This was a case in 2019. In the same year, many cases of animal abuse occurred in Japan, and the Environment Agency, which has jurisdiction over such cases, published them on the Internet in its “Investigation Report on Animal Abuse Cases.
It is my personal opinion that there is no need to refer to people who have been convicted of crimes as boys and girls.
I would be horrified if my family or precious animals were touched by such boys and girls without my knowledge.
It would be better to have their names and dates of birth published in the criminal database to prevent the next incident and to maintain public safety.
