The best season for dolphin swimming is said to be from mid- to late June.
The guide on Chichijima announced this during the cruise.
The rainy season is over, and it is just before the intense heat of midsummer. There is also a lot of sunshine.
I came to Chichijima mainly to do manga research on inhabited islands, but I decided to participate in this tour because I wanted to see the former inhabited islands as well.
I don’t usually go into the sea because I have sensitive skin and eyes.
複数のガイド会社とツアーが用意されています

I participated in the half-day course, which cost 8,000 yen.
It is also possible to go in the morning on the day of the Ogawara Maru’s departure (the last day on Chichijima).
Some people participated twice during their stay on Chichijima.
All equipment except swimsuits is available for free rental.

Location of Anijima Island in the Ogasawara Islands and dolphin swimming
・If you want to get more information about the ship’s swaying, etc., please refer to the general video. Otherwise, please refer to the 1-minute short video.

A guide is required because it is a World Natural Heritage Site.
Anijima is a former inhabited island, but even with a guide, landing is not permitted.
So, I participated in dolphin swimming to get as close to Anijima as possible.
However, I couldn’t get too close to the island because I was called back to the boat. At least I was able to take some photos. I think I can draw a few frames for my manga.
This tour includes landing on Minamijima Island and dolphin swimming at Anijima Island.
There are two opportunities for dolphin swimming.
People with disabilities should take note
When it was my turn, the captain misunderstood the movements of a person with disabilities and stopped me, saying, “If you can’t swim, don’t go in the sea.”
That’s rude. Just because my movements are different from those of an able-bodied person, I can swim.
Is information about people with disabilities not widely available in the Ogasawara Islands?
This incident revealed that elderly residents on Chichijima lack knowledge about people with disabilities.
A young female staff member showed understanding and responded, “Captain, this customer can swim.”

I obtained my scuba diving license on Cebu Island.
I can swim all strokes except butterfly.
On the contrary, I thought I might have a panic attack when the captain stopped me.
Access to Anijima, Ogasawara Islands
Please refer to this video for footage of boarding the Ogawara Maru.

I boarded a 24-hour ferry from Takeshiba in Tokyo.
Upon arriving at Chichijima, we joined a tour and traveled by small boat.
It was a calm day, but even with motion sickness medication, I felt quite seasick around Chichijima.
Anijima Information, etc.

On Anijima, you will be given this bread. It is bait to attract fish. In World Natural Heritage sites, it was permitted to feed bread to the fish.
There were many dolphins during the first trip (between Minamijima and Anijima). During the second trip, we were unable to take photos nearby.
In addition, many participants approached the dolphins, so even if we took photos, they were crowded with people.
This phenomenon is similar to the dolphin swim tour in Mikurajima. Regular customers are gradually disappearing.
It may be difficult to swim with dolphins in Japan anymore. It may be better to participate in a private tour overseas for photography.
