My tour of hydrangeas in Japan is almost complete, so I went to Korea as well.
South Korea is a country where English is rarely spoken. Even so, I have been to inhabited islands by bus and boat.
The travel expenses for the manga coverage trip, of which a large percentage is for transportation,
The total cost for this 10-day trip was 150,000 yen.
I went to Korea alone from the end of May to the beginning of June. However, due to delays and cancelled flights, I was unable to visit some of the inhabited islands that I had planned, so I had to carry that over to the next time.
I am a Singaporean NEET, so one of the things I regret is that I should have set aside one more week for my original stay.
The purpose of my visit to Korea was to cover Maharajima (a manga about a manned island). I prefer remote island settlements and villages to cities.
Cartoonist executes a challenging island trip in Korea for the first time.
The first day was the most difficult. We took a bus ride to the island. I couldn’t find any information about buses on the Internet, so I went there anyway. Unlike Japan, there is no place to leave suitcases at the airport.
We had no choice but to take the bus to the first island, dragging our suitcases with us.
Day 1 using airjapan
9:55 departure from Narita International Airport (Terminal 1, E9,E10)
→ 12:25 arrival at Incheon International Airport
Arrived at Narita Airport at 7:00 a.m. and had breakfast at Famima.
airjapan 18,110 yen (not the lowest price. (Not the lowest price, no sale)
Baggage check is available. No in-flight meal.
Incheon International Airport
This is where you will complete your transportation, prepaid, and currency exchange.
I wanted to buy a T-money card, but it was not sold at the convenience store in the airport.
Internet information states that it is sold, but when I asked the clerk, he refused to tell me that it is not sold.
It was not a verbal exchange, but a visual exchange of finger pointing, so it did not seem to be a misguidance.
So I went ahead and did the SIM card procedure. I then charged T-money to the card and boarded the bus.
(I couldn’t do this at a convenience store, so I charged the card at a ticket vending machine near the station ticket gate.。
LGU + SIM card (with T-money) 7days. 2,734 yen
15% discount booking from agoda. In-airport pickup.
I was unable to remove the free SIM by myself because my dominant hand was injured for three months, so I asked the receptionist to do it for me.
【Note: The SIM configuration profile used in Japan was deleted by the receptionist at this time.
When you return to Japan, promptly reinstall the configuration profile using the free wifi at the airport.
I was unaware of this and lost contact with my friend whom I was supposed to meet in Tokyo on the day of my return.
Luckily, there was a free wifi at a restaurant at the ticket gate of the station where we were going to meet, so we were saved. ・・・・
money exchange
The exit is across from the SIM card reception desk. I went to the money exchange counter there. The exchange rate at the airport is not good, so I exchanged only the minimum amount of money here.
Installed NAVER map because google map is not available
[Caution] There was an error in the route guidance many times, NAVER.
Some were put in the position to board the bus even though they were not allowed to board. Bus times and actual times were mismatched.
There were several fatal errors, so don’t fully trust them.
And the search result by google map also has many errors.
It is correct to use google map for checking your current location when you are on the move.
Buses in Korea
It is the same boarding and alighting method as in Singapore.
Japan should be the same!
Get on at the front of the bus and get off at the back. Check with google map, etc., that you are near the bus stop where you want to get off, and press the buzzer to get off. The bus shakes a lot, just like in Taiwan and Singapore. The chairs are slippery.
There was a bus that did not accept cash, and the driver told us with his hand that we should get on the bus anyway, even though our charge balance was insufficient. When I got off the bus, a Korean woman who had boarded the bus briskly walked away, saying, “I paid for your fare, too. Many Korean people were very kind.
Accommodation area: Hongdae-dori (홍대거리)
I heard this store has good rates for money exchange in Korea.
I have the impression that they are accustomed to Japanese, but the exchange is in English. Passport is required.
Seeing the garbage collected on the streets in this area, I realized that the garbage collection in Korea is similar to that in Japan.
The way to get on and off the bus is the same in Korea and Singapore, but the means of garbage collection is similar in Korea and Japan.
This area, however, is far from the port.
On the other hand, since transportation costs in Korea are less than half the price of those in Japan, I decided to locate in a place where accommodation costs are low and access to each port seems easy.
As it turns out, the hostel where I stayed this time was not impressive.
I will not describe which hostel I stayed at in this area.
It seems that owners usually leave guests in a state of “not knowing until the last minute what they need to prepare” by not replying to messages or by not informing them of paperwork until just before check-in on the day of the stay.
I paid for consecutive nights, but I moved to another business hotel in the middle of my stay.
The wifi speed was slow, and I heard that games that can be played comfortably on Narita Airport’s wifi would not finish loading at all at this hostel.
The data we took was not uploaded to iCloud (even after a whole night), which was very annoying.
When I communicated these complaints on a text basis, the owner told me, “Don’t lie to me. I did not write a lie. I wrote the facts.
It is better to refer to Google reviews in Korea than to guest reviews on booking.com or agoda. It is helpful because there are people who write their true feelings here, perhaps because there are not many users.
Several accommodations were like this. Hotels are probably the safer choice for accommodations in Korea.
Some restaurants only accept orders from two or more people.
Yet I was shown to a table by myself and told to order for two.
Huh?
I left the restaurant. Without paying. Without ordering.
Hongdae Dori (홍대거리) has such restaurants. Please be careful. This restaurant is just like that.
