Summary of Maharajima

The first location where author Ira conducted on-site research for his manga series MAHARAJIMA was Kodakarajima Island in Tokara.
Since the start of manga research in the Amami oshima Islands in February 2023, approximately 460 islands have been covered over the past two years.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Tokara Village Office, the Tokara Village Board of Education, and all related parties in Tokara for their continued support.
The protagonist of the Singapore edition is Pulau Ubin. Permission for the manga publication has also been confirmed with the Singapore government-affiliated organization.
We kindly request your continued support in the future
The World of Maharajima
In Japan, the power concentrated in Tokyo has collapsed, and the capital has been relocated to western Japan.
The global economic system, which had been created for the benefit of a select few, has finally been overturned by the unity of the people, who have endured for so long.
People are moving from cities to remote islands in search of their ideal society.
Japan’s 400+ inhabited islands have become rare places where only a select few can live.
Among those living on the islands, one person suddenly becomes a “maharabito,” a being with special abilities.
They possess the island’s unique powers and can see landscapes invisible to others.

The Boze of Tokara Akusekijima is a being that can only be seen by islanders who have lived on Akusekijima for more than three years and by maharabi.

This is not a one-shot story, but a side story with the keyword “salt.” On the small treasure island, where resources are scarce and even firewood is dependent on driftwood, the protagonist searches for MAHARABITO (spiritual beings) in various places and visits salt workshops.

Only the one-shot story of Maharajima will be posted on Japanese online platforms.
This is not the main story, but a one-shot side story of the more than 400 islands.
This is something that only Ira, who visited the location, could do.
Even if you give generative AI photos of real landscapes, it cannot draw landscape paintings as instructed.

Where to buy and how to obtain Manga Maharajima

The manga Maharajima is scheduled to be sold through Amazon’s self-publishing service.
There are three main reasons for this.
1: Many Japanese companies cannot sign contracts with Ira, who lives in Singapore.
2: Copyright risks in the event of cancellation.
Ira would no longer be able to draw the 400+ island characters.
Ira’s attachment to the uninhabited islands that have not yet appeared in the manga is not insignificant.
3: Ira can ship to remote islands without inventory risk.
*Amazon will only sell physical copies; no online viewing or posting is planned.
To prevent misuse of screenshots and avoid free sales.

Ira, the author, thought that if it was a one-shot side story, the rights could be separated even if the main story was eventually licensed to a company that handles copyrights.
* Reader influx from side stories to the main story
* The protagonist Kobashima is 10 years old, but his companions range in age from 10 to 70, and the first episode also features characters from the job market recession generation.
The target reader demographic is middle-aged adults.
According to data from Maharajima YouTube viewers, 80% are male, with most being over 40 years old.
Only the shorts feature men and women in their 20s.
Bonds that transcend the sea exist not only in the world of manga, but also in the real world!

The author, Ira, has placed A4-size books about MAHARAJIMA in the port waiting room, ferry common area, and municipal office tourism division, hoping that people interested in the island will also visit other inhabited islands.

Ira works alone on full-color pieces.
Every year, she visits the same island from Singapore to conduct interviews,
so Ira spends a considerable amount of time creating her art.
If you think, “Ira is working so hard even though she doesn’t live on the island,”
please share this blog with your friends.
We would also appreciate it if you subscribed to our YouTube channel.
Ira is living overseas by dipping into her savings.
I hope your “likes” on YouTube will serve as the foundation for donations (Ira apparently isn’t interested in Super Chats).
