I went to Ubin Island in Singapore (commonly known as Pulau Ubin locally).
One of the purposes of the visit was to confirm areas that should not be depicted in the manga Mahara Island, such as the scenery of Ubin Island.
So I spoke with the person in charge of government facilities.

In Singapore, photography is prohibited at military and government-related facilities, and penalties apply.

In addition, drone photography is also prohibited on the island. In Singapore, photography of military and government-related facilities is prohibited and subject to penalties.

To sum up,
“Will you draw an original story about Ubin?
I’d really appreciate it,” was the immediate response.
Artists come to Ubin Island every year,
but apparently no manga artist has ever drawn Ubin before.
Since the manga mainly focuses on inhabited islands, I also created characters for Sentosa Island.
I talked this with the person in charge on Ubin Island.
When I mentioned that I was born in Kagoshima, he told me that his Singaporean friend’s wife was also from Kagoshima. I was surprised to learn that there were people from Kagoshima who had married Singaporeans.
At least, it seems unlikely that there are any such people in the blog village below.

The owner of a shop who could only speak Chinese also agreed to be interviewed.
Ira doesn’t speak Chinese, so we used a translation app to communicate.
I asked dozens of questions that could be answered with a simple “yes” or “no.”
I learned about daily life on Ubin Island, including things like garbage disposal and other aspects of everyday life that aren’t covered in tourist information.

What I draw in Maharajima is
scenes from everyday life.
Folklore reflects the real world.
The stories are original, though.
Anyone can draw on past history, so there’s no point in Ira spending his life doing it.
That’s something AI can do just fine.
