My foreign friend requested information on the overnight bus from TDL to Kyoto, so I created this article.
I am a Japanese manga artist (living in Singapore) who has been to all the prefectures of Japan as well as more than 90% of the inhabited islands in Japan.
Of course, I am familiar with night buses.

The basic premise of riding a highway bus in Japan
Web reservations required. Even during the daytime, without a reservation, the bus may be full and you may not be able to board. Japan has a significant shortage of bus drivers and the number of buses is reduced every year.
The nonreservable highway bus is Okinawa, but it was miserable to see all the passengers who wanted to go to the airport but could not get on because the bus was full….
Criteria for selecting an overnight bus: by bus company or by bus.
For me, it would be per bus.
For example, some bus companies, like Limon Bus, operate multiple buses with 3-row and 4-row seats.
【List of buses departing from TDL】
★3-row★
・Limon Bus((bus company: Shinki Kanko) → 3-row and 4-row buses available
★4-row★
・オリオンバス:Orion Bus (bus company: OTB)
・フライングライナー:Flying Liner, KTKT, (Bus company: Kintetsu Bus)
・WILLER (bus company: WILLER)
・ユタカライナーYutaka Liner (bus company: Utaka Kotsu) TDL departs at 9:00 p.m., but the price tends to be the lowest. No women-only carriages.
・さくら高速バス:Sakura Express Bus (Bus company: Sakura Kotsu)
・ヨヤクトル:Yoyakutoru (bus company: Tourist Bus) Moreover, no rechargeable battery.

On a night bus with 4 rows of seats in Japan I was injured for 3 months total healing.
If it was an express bus route with only 4 rows, I would have no choice, but otherwise I would never choose it! Daily life was difficult!
When is a better departure time for TDL?
The late departure time for TDL was the main premise.
The last flight is at 22:00. Depending on the crowds, we assume that TDL will leave around 21:30.
・Around 8:00 p.m. → Finish having fun at the attractions. Gradually move to the attractions near the gate.
・20-21:00→Buy souvenirs, food and drink, and move toward the gate.
・21:30→Finish toilet, prepare to present reservation screen, remove luggage from suitcase for bedtime.
・21:45→Start boarding
・22:00→Bus departs

TDL photographed on Saturday at 9 p.m. Guests on this day left at 8 p.m., giving the impression that the number of guests had dropped below half.

It was just a full moon day. Even though the sky was bright, I was able to take pictures like this.

My friend was familiar with TDL, so we rode the appropriate attractions for the time of day.

This is the picture of the illuminated area.
Route overview. Ride time is approximately 8 hours

Requirements and priorities for buses
My friend who is coming to Japan this time is a considerate and polite woman. My friend who will be traveling with her to Japan will be similar to her. I have thought of a bus that will make them feel comfortable and at ease.
・Priority 1: Mobile phone rechargeable (because you will move while sleeping and resume activities in the morning)
・Priority 2: The cost of the ride (because you are coming from a country where the cost of living is lower than in Japan).
・Priority 3: 3 rows of seats with curtains (This does not have to be a women-only car, from my experience.)
・Priority 4: Toilet (I would like to use it at least once, but it depends on the individual.)
・Priority 5: Women-only car
Priority 1: Rechargeable buses
It depends on the bus whether it is individual USB ports or Japanese charging outlets.
As a woman who stays in Japan for more than one night, I considered both to be OK.

About highway buses in Japan.
As in other countries, if you leave your suitcase in the trunk case when you board the bus, you will not be able to retrieve it until you get off the bus, so please prepare anything you need for bedtime when you leave the TDL park.
Priority 2: Amount of ride
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays tend to be inexpensive.
On Saturdays, the prices tend to be at least twice that amount.
Friday, Sunday, and Monday are generally in the middle of the above.
Priority 3: 3-row seats with curtains
This is very hit or miss. It depends on the other passengers, not the bus company.
I sat in a 4-row seat and the Indian woman sitting next to me was so big that she even took my seat.
It was so narrow. And this narrowness compressed the nerves in my arm and I was injured for 3 months of total healing.

Went to hospital for x-ray.
I had to pay medical bills.
And I couldn’t work with my dominant hand for about 3 months!
I don’t want to ride next to a passenger who is not sized for the Japanese 4-row seats because I would get hurt again!
Be prepared for the night buses departing from TDL to be “almost full”.
Priority 4: Restrooms
If you are on the window side of a four-row overnight bus, expect to not be able to get to the bathroom. If the seat next to you is a stranger.
Priority 5: Women-only cars
If you have a 3-row seat, this item is Clear.
Since there have been many incidents in the past of women being sexually victimized on night buses in Japan, it is recommended that you choose a women-only car if you have 4-row seats.
Recommendations for bus reservation sites
バス比較ナビ(LINK)It handles a large number of buses and is easy to operate.
Be sure to make reservations and enjoy TDL during the day. Please also check the bus service status from time to time. If the bus service is cancelled, you will be refunded, but you may have to leave TDL early and take the Shinkansen to Kyoto or Osaka.
If it were me, I would switch to an overnight bus departing from Tokyo Station.
